Welcome to the School of Public Affairs!

SPA Dean Vicky Wilkins

The School of Public Affairs at American University (SPA) is home to leading scholars in public policy, public administration, criminology, law and society, organizational development, political science, and other diverse and complex fields. Our faculty members - renowned for both teaching and research - bring expertise to bear and contribute to the public discourse in all of these areas. I believe our greatest strength lies in the unique community we have built with the efforts of exceptionally talented faculty, students, and staff. Each brings together a wide variety of perspectives, backgrounds, experiences, knowledge, and approaches.

As we look to the future, we have an ambitious plan building on our strengths and honoring our formidable legacy. We will continue to produce 21st century challenge-focused research that informs citizens and government as they work together to improve the world around them. In addition to being knowledgeable, engaged, and globally conscious citizens, our graduates will increasingly apply the complex problem solving, leadership, and research skills acquired during their time at SPA. The school's research and initiatives will create an even deeper connection with thought leaders and decision makers.
