Applying for Summer Housing

Log into your AU Housing Portal and select the application for "Summer Student 2021." There is no deadline to apply, but students should apply at least 10 business days prior to their requested move-in.

The application will allow you to select the timeframe and room-type (traditional, suite, apartment) you prefer. We are unable to take requests for specific hall. It is possible that certain halls will not be used for the summer if there is not enough demand.

Cancelling Summer Housing

Students who cancel before moving in will have housing fees removed from their account in 4-5 business days.

After a student moves-in, they should contact HRL (housing@american.edu) before canceling their housing. Students are assigned for the dates they applied for an may not be eligible for a refund.

Dining

No meal plans will be offered during the summer. Summer residents can utilize the East Campus C-Store and can also add Eagle Bucks to their AU OneCard to use with local vendors, including GrubHub. For additional information please contact AU Dining.

We will share more information here and in email to applicants in April.

If your current room assignment is in the summer building, we will do our best to allow you to remain in your academic year room assignment. Demand for summer housing will determine if all or a select number of the halls listed on this page will be used. We will communicate with all applicants once these details are confirmed.

Summer policies are the same as the academic year. Please review the Summer Housing and Lisence Agreement linked on this page and Student Conduct Code.

Additionally, information about permitted in the residence halls can be found on our Packing List page.

No. Each student will have a bedroom to themselves. Additionally, some residents will share bathrooms, kitchens, and living spaces with other residents based on the design of the specific hall.

Students residing on-campus through August 8th and who have a fall 2021 housing assignment in an AU operated residence hall will receive communication from HRL about transitioning to their fall assignment around August 8.

We anticipate being able to house all applicants. As long as each applicant meets the summer criteria (an AU students registered for fall and/or spring courses or students who graduated from AU in May 2021) they will be provided housing for the requested timeframe.

We will share this information with summer residents in April. Mail and packages should not be sent to campus until HRL confirms this process.
