Frequently Asked Questions

Parking is limited on campus on April 12. Guests are encouraged to use public transportation.

Shuttle Service: American University provides complimentary shuttle service between the Tenleytown-AU Metro station and campus (shuttle stop is located between McKinley Building and Letts Hall). Shuttles run every 10 minutes. The north-side shuttle stop (behind Kogod School of Business) will not be in use.

Taxi and Ride-Sharing: Passenger pick-up and drop-off is located between the McKinley Building and Letts Hall.

The Sports Center Parking Garage adjacent to Bender Arena will be reserved for off-campus guests and delegates attending the ceremony. A pdf parking pass will be emailed to registered alumni, delegates, and friends of the university a week prior to the ceremony. If you have not received a parking pass by Monday, April 9, please send us an email.

Faculty, staff and student permit holders must park in SIS, Katzen, Centennial Garages, or the East Campus surface lot.

In accordance with Washington, DC, regulations and the University's "Good Neighbor Policy," all guests, students, faculty, and staff driving to campus are required to park in a designated parking garage with the appropriate parking pass. Parking is prohibited on all neighborhood streets while visiting any university property.

Delegates representing learned societies, professional organizations, colleges, and universities will assemble in the Butler Pavilion, 6th floor, Board Room at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 12. Butler Pavilion is adjacent to Sports Center Garage. Coffee and a light breakfast will be served. Robing and line-up will begin at 10:15 a.m. Delegates are asked to bring their own regalia.

Faculty participating in the processional will assemble in the Palmer-Kettler Lounge on the 2nd floor of the Sports Center at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 12. Coffee and a light breakfast will be served. Robing and line-up will begin at 10:15 a.m. Faculty who requested regalia through the inauguration registration site may pick it up in Palmer-Kettler Lounge.

The inauguration ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m. in Bender Arena. The Arena doors will open for guests at 10:00 a.m. All guests are asked to be seated by 10:50 a.m. The ceremony will run approximately 90 minutes.

You need to register to attend the inauguration ceremony and other inauguration events.

For anyone unable to attend inauguration, the ceremony will be live-streamed on the inauguration website.

The inauguration ceremony is accessible for guests with disabilities. A sign language interpreter and closed captioning will be provided. Please send us an email if you require additional accommodations.

University photographers will take pictures during the ceremony for possible use on the AU website or in the press, AU marketing materials, or other university publications.


Area Lodging

American University has negotiated discounted rates with hotels conveniently located to campus. Discounted rates are provided for quests of AU, faculty, staff, and current students for business or personal travel. We encourage you to make reservations as early as possible.
