Models, Maps, and Measures: Methodological Innovations on the Social Determinants of HIV Symposium

The Center on Health, Risk and Society hosted an all day research symposium titled, "Models, Maps, Measures: Methodological Innovations on the Social Determinants of HIV Symposium" with co-sponsors the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and the DC Center for AIDS Research (DC CFAR) on Thursday, May 2nd 2019. The goal of this symposium was to share accomplishments and distill lessons learned from grantees through the Methodologies to Enhance Understanding of HIV-Associated Social Determinants RFA (MH16-200 & MH16-205) which included two teams based at American University. Symposium attendees also worked to identify advances and gaps in research and practice related to a social determinants of HIV approach across disciplines and sectors. 

President Burwell and Dr. Dianne Rausch, Director of NIMH’s Office on AIDS, kicked off the symposium. The research symposium was well attended with nearly a 100 researchers, government representatives and community members spending the day at AU.

This discussion took place at 2:30-3:45pm in the School of International Service Abramson Founders Family Room and focused on women’s health from a variety of perspectives, from the global viewpoint down to the local issues here in Washington, DC.
