Bio
Jennifer Hamady is the author of The Art of Singing series, as well as a voice teacher, performance coach, and a board-certified therapist specializing in technical and emotional issues that interfere with self-expression. Her clients include Grammy, Helen Hayes, American Music, and Country Music award-winners, performers in Emmy and Tony award-winning productions, contestants on The Voice and American Idol, and corporate clients including IBM, Merck, Merrill Lynch, Women in Telecommunications and others across an array of industries.

Jennifer’s first book: "The Art of Singing: Discovering and Developing Your True Voice" was heralded by BackStage and Variety as a breakthrough in the psychology of personal and musical
performance. Published by Hal Leonard in 2009, it remains one of their top sellers. Based upon her experiences as a performer and vocal coach, the book offers all people a path toward effortless and joyful self-expression. Her second book, "Learning to Sing: A Transformative Approach to Vocal Performance and Instruction" provides an academic look at the psychology, physiology and neuroscience of her teaching method.

Jennifer’s follow up for Hal Leonard, "The Art of Singing Onstage and in the Studio: Understanding the Psychology, Relationships and Technology in Performing and Recording" was released in 2016 and explores the critical and often neglected issues of the technology and interpersonal relationships in recording and live performance – the first book on the market to do so. Following a discussion of the evolution of technology and the voice in our culture, Jennifer also explores the root causes of anxiety-related performance issues and, more importantly, how to overcome them.

Jennifer also writes regularly for Psychology Today, American Songwriter, and The Huffington Post, as well as for Finding Your Voice, on matters of vocal issues, creative expression, and personal empowerment, frequently giving keynotes, master classes, and workshops on the same.

In addition to writing, coaching, and lecturing, Jennifer has also enjoyed a successful singing and performance career. She toured internationally with Cirque du Soleil’s DELIRIUM as a lead singer and sang back-up vocals for artists and television programs including Stevie Wonder, Christina Aguilera, Patti LaBelle, Wyclef Jean, Def Leppard, Jessica Simpson, Smokey Robinson, The Grammys, American Idol, David Letterman, Good Morning America, and The Tonight Show.

Jennifer has also had the pleasure of writing with songwriters, artists, and composers including Mike Reid, Gary Burr, and Wyclef Jean, as well as Mark O’Connor, with whom she penned lyrics for both a classical song cycle entitled The Journey, and an original musical theater project. Jennifer’s song “If You Ask Me To” was a finalist in American Idol’s 6th season’s songwriting competition, and her original music has been featured on television, in film, and on recordings by artists in a variety of genres.

Jennifer conducted her undergraduate (magna cum laude) and graduate work (AFTRA/Heller Memorial Foundation Scholarship) in Classical Vocal Performance and Psychology, respectively, and holds professional affiliations with organizations including The American Counseling Association (ACA), National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), Actors’ Equity Association (AEA), Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), American Society of Composers and Performers (ASCAP), The Author’s Guild (AG), National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and the New York Singing Teacher’s Association (NYSTA).
